Naira scarcity: Buhari indicts Bank CEOs The President said he had noted reports about cash shortages and hardship on local businesses and ordinary people and gave assurances that the remaining seven of the 10-day extension will be used to crack down on whatever stood in the way of successful implementation. “I will revert to the CBN and the Minting Company. There will be a decision one way or the other in the remaining seven days of the 10-day extension,” the President assured. The Governors told the President that, while they agreed that his decision on the renewal of currency was good and they were fully in support, its execution had been botched and their constituents were becoming increasingly upset. They told the President that, as leaders of the government and party in their different states, they were becoming anxious about a slump in the economy and the series of elections that are coming. They requested the President to use his powers to direct the concurrent use of the ...

No come Lekki, or we go fight’, Portable warns TG Omori Nigerian street singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted to TG Omori’s request to direct a music video for him. This is coming after TG Omori’s Tuesday concession to the musician’s requests following repeated daily attacks on social media. He requested a song from Portable so that he could make the video, but he did not specify if it would be free or if the $50,000 cost would be waived. In response to the proposal, the pair started an Instagram live session on Wednesday. Portable bemoaned TG Omori’s excessive costs and accused the director of once again disliking him. He then jokingly warned TG Omori not to travel to Lekki or Sango for fear for his safety because a fight would likely break out if they met. In response, TG Omori clarified that it wasn’t personal and that his main goal is to make money. The pair’s disagreement did not end there, on Tuesday, as Portable dragged TG Omori, for sidelining hi...

LUNAR-CY! Nasa promises nuclear power plant on MOON by 2030 – with a bizarre catch NASA has plans to put a nuclear power plant on the Moon within this decade but it's publicly asking for help to make it happen. The space agency and the US Department of Energy are asking for ideas on how to build a uranium-powered nuclear reactor and send it to the lunar surface. A statement from the Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory confirmed it was teaming up with Nasa for the project. It said the duo were hoping to "establish a durable, high-power, sun-independent power source for NASA missions." The US space agency is "seeking proposals from nuclear and space industry leaders" on how the nuclear power system could be created and sent to space inside a 12 foot long, 18-foot wide rocket. The deadline for proposals is February 19 next year and the aim is to have the lunar nuclear power plant up and running by 2030. If successful, the reactor could make Mo...

ROCKY HORROR 1,000-FOOT asteroid will break into Earth’s orbit says Nasa NASA has warned that a giant asteroid bigger than the Eiffel Tower will break into Earth's orbit in just over a week. The huge 1,082 foot space rock is heading our way and should skim past us on December 11. Nasa has its eye on Asteroid 4660 Nereus because it's well over 492 foot long and will come within 4.6million miles of Earth. That puts it in the "potentially hazardous" category. There's no need to panic though as Asteroid Nereus isn't expected to impact Earth. If all goes well it should shoot past our planet at 14,700 miles per hour. Nasa is expecting the space rock to stay 2.4million miles away from us. That's about 10 times the distance between Earth and the Moon. That may seem pretty far away but it's actually close as near-Earth asteroids go. Nasa considers anything passing within 120million miles of Earth a Near-Earth Object (NEO). Thousands of NEOs are tracked by sc...

Today’s Doodle celebrates the 142nd birthday of Chinese-Malaysian epidemiologist Dr. Wu Lien-teh, who invented a surgical face covering that is widely considered the precursor to the N95 mask. Born into a family of Chinese immigrants in Penang, Malaya (modern-day Malaysia) on this day in 1879, Wu went on to become the first student of Chinese descent to earn his MD from Cambridge University. Following his doctoral studies, he accepted a position as the vice director for China's Imperial Army Medical College in 1908. When an unknown epidemic afflicted north-western China in 1910, the Chinese government appointed Wu to investigate the disease, which he identified as the highly contagious pneumonic plague that spread from human to human through respiratory transmission. To combat the disease, Wu designed and produced a special surgical mask with cotton and gauze, adding several layers of cloth to filter inhalations. He advised people to wear his newly invented mask and worked wi...

Girls among the nearly 300 who were kidnapped from a school in north-western Nigeria have been describing their ordeal following their release. "Most of us got injured," one of the schoolgirls told the BBC, adding that gunmen threatened to shoot them. The girls were abducted by unidentified assailants from their boarding school in Jangebe, Zamfara state, on Friday and taken to a forest, police said. The state's governor said on Tuesday that the 279 girls had been freed. Such kidnappings are carried out for ransom and are common in the north of the country. On Tuesday, dozens of the girls were seen gathered at a government building in Zamfara after they were taken there in a fleet of mini-buses. Speaking to the BBC, one of the schoolgirls said that some of those kidnapped had found it difficult to continue walking when instructed to do so by the gunmen because of their injuries. "They said they [would] shoot anybody who did not continue to walk," she said. "...
